Supercell, the developer behind the popular game Clash of Clans, has made an investment in the web3 gaming startup Games for a Living (GFAL) as part of a $3.2M seed funding round. Other investors in this round include venture capitalist Mitch Lasky and Heinrich Zetlmayer, among others.

Earlier in 2023, GFAL also raised $4.4M through a token offering, bringing their total funding for the year to $7.6M. This latest investment will be used to expand GFAL’s team and develop new web3-based games.

The startup’s leadership team comprises individuals with experience at major game companies such as King Entertainment, Activision Blizzard, and Electronic Arts.

Building On GFAL’s Early Progress

Ilkka Paananen, CEO at Supercell, expressed excitement about the partnership and shared, “I’ve had the pleasure of working together with the team earlier in my career. We are excited to be part of their journey and see all the great things they’ll achieve.”

Manel Sort, CEO at GFAL, also expressed gratitude for the recent funding and outlined plans to use it for company growth. “We are incredibly grateful for the confidence that Supercell, Mitch, and Heinrich have placed in GFAL. Working on a project alongside Trip and Ilkka, with whom I shared many thrilling and successful years at Digital Chocolate, is a dream come true, and I can’t wait to show the world the high caliber of games we are building,” he added.

Recent success with the mobile game Elemental Raiders—a free-to-play turn-based hero battler with NFT elements—has helped GFAL establish its reputation in web3 gaming. The team intends to use the new capital to build upon this early progress.

Additional participants in the funding round include Bonduc Bioscience SL, BCNBCNLVC, and David Fernandez, CEO of Sandsoft.
